I’ve bought 20 boxes of Kwik Stix paint crayons over the years. Probably more. Yes, they’re that good. And that’s why I’m so excited to have partnered with The Pencil Grip, Inc to share my kids’ (& my!) love of Kwik Stix.

I’ve found the Holy Grail arts & craft item for your kids (& you—but more on that below). They’re called Kwik Stix Paint Crayons.
Trust me on these.
I discovered Kwik Stix paint crayons a few years ago & it turns out they are one of my best Mom Hacks ever.
You know how sometimes you come across something that is just too good to be true? And then it usually really is too good to be true…? Well, not these.
I’m going to date myself a little bit here, but remember cray-pas? These are kind of like a new & improved cray-pa.
Kwik Stix are the perfect paint/crayon hybrid.
They’re solid tempera paint sticks in the size & shape of a glue stick. The best part? They dry in 90 seconds to a perfect paint-like finish. Oh, and they’re non-toxic, too.
I bought them on a whim when my son was about a year old because they got great reviews online. He loved them. I loved them. And since then, I’ve reordered them 20 or more times.
(Put it this way—I’ve bought them so many times that they always show up as one of my “Order it Again” items on Amazon…along with baby wipes. Do we ever stop using baby wipes? I think not.)
I keep them stocked at my house because we burn through ours and because they make the perfect gift for birthday parties. They’re a great price point & a hit with the kids.
We call them “paint crayons” because that’s essentially what they are. I’m going to tell you why my kids love them & then I’m going to tell you why I as a Mother love them (which is arguably more important, right?).
Why my kids love Kwik Stix Paint Crayons:
- The colors are extremely VIBRANT.
This is important. Kids love the bright & the fun. They’re not looking for muted colors or a barely yellow sunshine. They want the colors to show up the way they imagine them.
- They are super smooth and glide across the page
My kids love to free-form paint & color & draw whatever they want. Sometimes we use the easel. Sometimes we use construction paper (or if we’re being honest, computer paper). And sometimes I lay out a huge roll of paper & we make giant banners that blanket our entire wall.
When they were younger, we used them with coloring books. We also loved the Thin Stix for that because they’re basically a thinner version of Kwik Stix with a finer point so they work great for staying in the lines. (Side note: We loved these big image coloring books when my kids were 2-4. They come in a bunch of themes.)
Kwik Stix aren’t just for paper.
My kids paint rocks like it’s their job. And our beloved paint crayons allow us to paint the same rocks day after day after day. The paint dries quickly & easily & doesn’t smear all over the place.
I have countless pictures hanging on my fridge & cabinets (because we ran out of fridge space) & I love it. And I have a bowl of painted rocks sitting on our counter at all times. (I’m totally one of those Mamas, can’t you tell?)
Oh, and at Halloween—we paint pumpkins with them! We have yet to carve pumpkins yet (I’m not afraid to admit that is a little too ambitious for us at this point…aka, I don’t want to deal with that level of mess/clean up quite yet if I’m being honest.)
- Body Paint, anyone?
Let’s not forget their favorite thing to paint—their bodies. YES, I let them color & paint all over their bodies often. Whenever they’re due for a bath, I let them go for it. Have I lost my mind? No. That’s how washable these are. (and also, non-toxic = YAY)
My kids paint tiger stripes & dinosaur spikes all over their arms, legs, and torsos. Then they paint each other’s backs. Next come cheetah spots. Then stars and moons. You name it, they paint it.
Which leads me to why these deserve Mom Hack-status…
Why I love Kwik Stix Paint Crayons (as a Mom):
- They’re. Just. So. Easy.
You don’t need brushes. You don’t need water. And there are no spills.
(A friend of mine told me her kid dips his (that we gave him for his birthday, obvi) in water to do watercolor painting. I thought that was brilliant but to be honest, I’ve never pulled out water to use with these because it’s just too easy without it & I’m not about to mess with something that works so perfectly. Same reason I don’t cut the crust off my kids’ sandwiches. They don’t know “crustless” is a thing & I want to keep it that way, ha.)
- They’re non-toxic.
They’re also nut, egg and gluten free. I do the best I can as a Mom. We all do. And this makes me feel better.
Kwik Stix wash off with zero effort. ZERO.
This is my favorite part. Water takes Kwik Stix paint right off—you don’t even really have to scrub, just a little rub & poof—gone.
So once my kids look like they belong at Lollapalooza or Burning Man I throw them in the bath or shower & they immediately look like they belong at high tea. It’s the biggest win ever for Moms because we get to let our kids paint all over themselves with no worries about the clean up.
And the ease of cleaning isn’t limited to little walking tattoos. I love these modern day cray-pas because when I find a mark on the dining table or the hardwood floor or the kitchen counter, a baby wipe takes it right off. And it was even easy to get some marks off our couch (microsuede FTW). Hallelujah for that.
- Kids need to be kids
Kids need to play & get messy & express themselves. This is a way to let their creativity flow while helping your your sanity stay put.
- Your kids will think you’re the Best Mom Ever
Soak up the “Best Mom Ever” vibes because your kids can’t believe you’re actually letting them paint all over themselves.
And happily so.
And for all you teachers out there, these are a no-brainer for the classroom. The kids will adore them & you won’t have to think twice about the clean-up or scrubbing tables or floors or walls.
So, buy your kids a box of Kwik Stix. Watch them have a ball with them. Rinse and repeat…aka rinse & reorder them because trust me, you’ll need more.
