I threw a Storybook Baby Shower for my sister who was expecting her first child.
Even though I hosted it & am therefore biased, I have to say it was my favorite baby shower I’ve ever been to. And not just because I was celebrating my sister (though that was the icing on the very delicious little cakes!).
A Storybook Baby Shower is just about the sweetest theme ever for a little one on the way.
And here’s why:
It’s perfect for a little boy or girl…or surprise. And if the parents like books—Bonus! My sister is a book lover and an avid reader. Always has been. And her husband (my college roomie, but that’s a whole other story…) is a book lover, too. So, a Storybook Baby Shower was the perfect way to celebrate their baby on the way.
Plus, reading stories & books to your kids becomes one of the most special things you do in those early years. It’s the stuff childhood is made of.
I’m not one to usually obsess about parties & baby showers & every detail being perfect, but for some reason throwing a baby shower for my sister turned me into a full on Martha Stewart Pinterest Maven. My sis is the best sister, the best friend, & the best Aunt…and has done SO much for my kids & me since I became a Mama. So of course, I wanted to do something perfect for her.
And I think we did just that with this Storybook Baby Shower.
Below is everything you need to throw the perfect Storybook Baby Shower—pictures, decor, deets, links & sources—you name it!
Oh, and yes, her baby girl has arrived and they’re living Happily Ever After.
The End.

Storybook Cupcake Toppers • Cupcake Stand
These Storybook Cupcake Toppers pulled the entire Storybook Baby Shower together! They were easily the most perfect touch to set the tone. Christina at Little Hope Cakes did these Storybook Cupcake Toppers & we couldn’t have loved them more! They would also be precious scattered all over a cake. Shipping was fast & the quality was excellent!

Green Eggs & Ham Book • Deviled Egg Tray • Book Letter
We served pork sliders as our “ham” element for Green Eggs & Ham. Deets on the eggs below!
For our Green Deviled Eggs we added a smidge of green food coloring. We thought about doing avocado deviled eggs but didn’t want them to brown, and we thought about doing pesto deviled eggs but we wanted the classic taste. These were a hit!
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Book
The Rainbow Fish Book • Rainbow Goldfish
The Giving Tree Book • Plastic Stemless Champagne Flutes
We served Sparkling Apple Cider (Trader Joes has a delicious one!) for the Beverage as an ode to The Giving Tree. We dipped the glasses in water & a cinnamon sugar mix to give them the rim, and we had Champagne on hand for those who wanted to make an “Apple Cider Mimosa!”
“And the Story Begins” Napkins • Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road? book
We served Chicken Salad for the chicken dish!
These plates & napkins were the perfect complement to a Storybook Baby Shower! (Bonus = they are also sturdy!)
Are You My Mother? Book • Hop on Pop Book
Such a cute little display to add to the Storybook Baby Shower Decor.
Baby’s First ABC Coloring Book
Samantha at SamanthaBDesign makes these adorable coloring page templates for Baby’s First ABC Book. How perfect for a Storybook Baby Shower! Our guests loved picking a page to color & I was able to laminate & bind the pages into the most precious ABC book for my Sister’s baby girl. Talk about a special gift!
You can even add Personalized Pages to make the book extra special. I chose to add personalized pages for my children’s names since they’re the baby’s cousins & also for my sister’s dogs. You can personalize a page for each family member—even your pets!

Baby’s First ABC Coloring Book
We love using this old Carriage for Baby Showers to put the gifts in & around. You could use a regular stroller, too!
These little favors were such a hit with the guests! Cute & yummy & on theme = a total win. And I loved that these little bags were self-sealing. I printed my own labels to put on them but you could also leave them blank & just put a little sign saying “Bookworms” next to them.
There are countless Storybook Baby Shower invitations on Etsy, but I couldn’t resist designing my own (my sis & I used to have a stationery design company)! I added gold washi tape to make a “book binding” and I used a “This book belongs to” stamp for the front of the envelopes to the left of the Guest Address. The stamp was such a cute touch! They turned out adorable!
I also LOVED the idea of “building baby’s library!” We had the guests bring a book instead of a card & it was so fun & special to see everyone’s favorite children’s books.

This Storybook Baby Shower turned out sweeter & more fun than I ever could have imagined!
Every single thing was a hit—with my sister, her husband, and all the guests!
The decor was super easy because we just put all the classic storybooks we had on hand on display all over the place! People loved walking around & looking at the books. The only thing we bought was that sweet gold baby balloon and a couple of books (which doubled as great gifts)!
The ABC coloring book pages were so fun & gave an interactive element without doing a full-on game. Guests could color at their leisure which made it relaxed & fun.
The food was wonderful & so on point. Though we opted not to do a The Very Hungry Caterpillar fruit tray simply because we had enough food, that would be an amazing (& adorable!) addition!
I’m not going to lie, if I was having another baby I would want this exact same Storybook Baby Shower thrown for me! It was just too perfect.
